![]() The funny thing about this issue is that although Ableton Live has become the DAW of choice for people doing electronic music, it has an equally poor implementation of quantize capabilities as Reaper, and it's frustrating that completely audio-less workstations in the 1990s did it better, as did many MPC-like boxes and keyboard workstations. I really wish Justin and the guys would look at this stuff because I think there are a lot of users particularly at the electronic end of music who are staying away from Reaper because of this stuff. Without this kind of feature, Reaper to me is an audio recorder and layout arranger more akin to Cool Edit Pro. Tracks could by default take the master sequencer quantize division, strength and swing from the Transport, but also be able to switch to a track specific quantize. Ideally there would be some kind of realtime quantize property stored per track, accessible perhaps from a button on the TCP that could be hidden globally/individually, including grid/time signature setting, division, swing % and also early/late shift %. For a good many users this kind of editor switching is unnecessary and a big slow down to just making tracks. In contrast, Reaper's is very off-line and involves cumbersome switching to destructive editing in a separate window. Being able to move a swing slider about is very creative, and it's also very important to be able to see what quantize a pre-existing track has been set to (something for example that is easy to see in Logic's inspector at the left). They can be applied to individual regions but the quantize is available as an overall 'state' for the specific track, which can be changed in realtime non destructively to the original recorded midi. If you use anything from a traditional MPC to Logic, Digital Performer, Pro Tools, you have access to track based quantize functions. I have posted about it here before but for some reason no-one seems to take it seriously, I suspect it is perhaps lack of experience with other DAWs. I think this is the no.1 thing stopping me using Reaper before other DAWs, the lack of a realtime quantize function of any kind.
